The Antiochian Church Archive

This archive consists of documents and papers and several scholastic religious manuscripts that were kept in boxes under unfavorable conditions and have therefore suffered some deterioration. They belong to the libraries of the different patriarchates, monasteries, and bishoprics of the Antiochian Church in Lebanon and Syria.  They represent basic resources for the study of the history of these places." data-share-imageurl="https://iohanes.uobdh.org/sites/default/files/archive-kanasi.gif">
This archive consists of documents and papers and several scholastic religious manuscripts that were kept in boxes under unfavorable conditions and have therefore suffered some deterioration. They belong to the libraries of the different patriarchates, monasteries, and bishoprics of the Antiochian Church in Lebanon and Syria.  They represent basic resources for the study of the history of these places. They also shed light on the social and economic conditions that existed at different times. This archive contains:
1. Records
    Daily Accounts:  details of the expenditures and incomes arranged monthly 
    Individual accounts: accounts of persons who have dealings with a monastery or a church 
    Ledgers: main record of all accounts 
    Other documents:  few documents related to deaths, land ownership  
2. Papers
    Documents of different kinds and sizes,
    Deeds: Documents that prove ownership of land also sales, buys, joint ownership land     boundaries,..
    Correspondences:  various letters sent or received by a monastery or archbishopric dealing     with matters related to organization of the monasteries and awqaf, and relations with people     of neighboring areas. Some deal with monastic life giving religious and spiritual advice. 

 
 
Researchers may use the database related to the Church archives on the University of Balamand Campus only.
